Go-Zen Japanese, Spit Rd, Mosman

Tonight my dinner buddy and I decided to do the cheap and cheerful option and selected Go-Zen at Mosman. If you've never been the entrance is actually on Stanton Lane even though the address is Spit Road. There's a carpark behind the restaurant which is really handy.

It's a small space with rather drab looking decor - but let's face it you are not going there for the decor - it's the cheap and cheerful prices that support the delicious food. I'm a fan and it's one of those places that you don't want too many to know about, so this review will self destruct in 5 mins......

I love the fresh taste of japanese food - it just feels healthy eating raw food and it's not filling. We started with some salmon and tuna sashimi - mixing our own combinations of wasabi and soy sauce - sensational. This was followed by prawn moneybags and sweet chilli sauce - they were very good with decent size prawns inside. We finished off with one of their specials - deep fried soft shell crab - it was good, not great.

The size of the restaurant is an issue, especially when you have a couple of large groups inside. We were seated next to the noisiest family with 4 teenagers that were all trying speak over each other. It was like fingernails down a chalkboard...

The staff are pleasant and efficient and it's so reasonable - the bill came to $17 each. For a BYO restaurant this is fantastic. Bookings essential.

Don't tell anyone - OK?
