Mango Room, Hoi An, Vietnam
Mango Room, Hoi An, Vietnam
Tuesday 25 September, 2005
Our host, chef and all round international man of mystery is Mr Duc. The only man who can carry off a scarf wrapped around his head and look very sexy. He was born in Malaysia and has lived and worked in many countries and has now found himself in Hoi An. The food is called fusion as it incorporates Vietnamese, Japanese, Mexican and French.
The Mango Room is a very cool spot to hang and enjoy a drink or dinner. If dining with a small crowd request the table inside near the entrance where you sit on a raised platform on cushions. The vibe is loud, young and the emphasis is on the cocktails. Passionfruit margaritas all around we enjoyed large platters of prawns - lightly fried and scallops topped with mango/ tomato garnish. It just didn't stop coming and we finished off the night with mango sorbet - delicious!
Total cost $20 Australian each including alcohol

The total cost is more like $80.00 Aus and the food is absolutely appalling. If you like ersatz western variation and the most arrogant service you'll find in Vietnam then this is the place for you. You would like to have their food handled by their waitress? I was astounded. Duc wandered around the restaurant with a towel on his head. What an absolute poser!
The Mango Room was a complete disappointment. The service was complete sub standard, unless you like your food handled by the waitress! Duc's wife was the maître d'hôtel that night. A more arrogant and ersatz westerner you could not find. I saw Duc wandering around the restaurant - a total poser. The food was totally sub standard. A --five out of five.
we ate at mango room last week. We are vegetarians and they had one vegetarian entree. It was cubes of tofu in curry, lemon grass and black pepper pan fried and topped with garlic, tomato and basil sauce. On the side was fresh rice noodles gift wrapped in ribbons of banana leaves.
It was the best vegetarian food I have had.The chef sent us complementary vegetarian tempura.
I give it a high five.
