Sandbar, 25 The Strand, Dee Why

Sandbar, 25 The Strand, Dee Why
Sunday 12 March, 2006

Today we were celebrating a friend's birthday. After several attempts to lock in a location, the gang finally settled on Dee Why. Sandbar has a prime location overlooking Dee Why beach. On a hot, steamy day like today, the beach was full as were the surrounding cafes/ restaurants.

I had brought a birthday cake along and the kitchen kindly agreed to keep it until we were ready to launch into 'Happy birthday to you...'.

Sandbar has some of the best looking male staff in Sydney - the guys are very easy on the eye and also good value. The menu is extensive - there are main meals such as risotto, fish, burgers, chicken etc and also a selection of salads and sandwiches. Our gang of five decided on:

- Chargrilled prawn and avocado salad with wild rocket, cherry tomatoes and preserved lemon with a light balsamic dressing
- Shredded chicken salad with fresh mango and grilled haloumi. Dressed with an apple cider vinaigrette
- Chicken club sandwich (Chargrilled chicken breast with bacon, roasted tomato, lettuce and seeded mustard mayonnaise. Served with fries)
- Steak sandwich x 2 (Grilled steak, oven dried tomatoes, portobello mushroom, chilli jam and lettuce. Served with fries)

I thoroughly enjoyed my steak sandwich, it was served tender and the mushroom/ tomato combination with chilli jam was delicious. There were no complaints and everyone really enjoyed their meals.

We were all feeling quite full when we realised that we still had cake to come. Our gorgeous male waiter brought the cake to the table singing 'Happy birthday' and we all joined in.

Sandbar is very reasonable and the service is efficient. We paid $20 pp for lunch, drinks and coffee. What a great way to spend a few hours by the beach.
